For the vegetables:

  • 650g bok choy, cut into halves (or quarters, if you prefer smaller bites)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely diced
  • 1/2 Tbsp Shaoxing cooking wine
  • OPTIONAL: Sesame oil for drizzling
  • Cornstarch slurry (1/2 tsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 tbsp cold water)

For the sauce:

  • 1 tsp water
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp sugar
  • 1/3 tsp chicken bouillon powder

Step by Step Instructions for Our Sauteed Garlic Bok Choy Recipe

This tasty vegetable dish is easy to whip together for a healthy side dish, or as the main event itself with some rice. Here are the step by step instructions!

To prep your sauce, mix together 1 tsp water, 1/3 tsp salt, 1/3 tsp sugar, 1/3 tsp chicken bouillon powder in a small bowl, and set aside. NOTE: Feel free to double or triple this recipe if you want more sauce with your bok choy, or are making a larger quantity of bok choy.

To prep the bok choy, give them a good wash and then cut them in halves or quarters, depending on how big you want the pieces.

Heat your wok up to medium heat, then add 1 tbsp neutral oil (e.g. vegetable oil).

Add your chopped garlic to the wok, stir fry for a few seconds.

Add the bok choy into the wok.

… Followed immediately by the cooking wine.

Stir fry for 10 seconds, then add in your pre-prepared sauce.

Cover with a lid and let cook for 3 min until bok choy has softened.

Finally, add your cornstarch slurry (1/2 tsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 tbsp cold water) so the sauce thickens slightly.

Plate up your bok choi and drizzle with some sesame oil as a final touch… and enjoy!
